Great Yarmouth Beach Photographers
1900
By Paul Godfrey
This scene of Great Yarmouth Beach probably dates from 1900. It is taken from velvet mounted souvenir drawing printed onto glass.
There are three beach photographers with tripod mounted cameras in the picture.
The first picture shows the whole image.
The second shows the photographer posing his subject against the sea wall. Notice the hand cart to the left where darkroom operations would have taken place.
The third shows the use of a comic style painted background with the camera on the tripod.
The fourth just shows the camera and tripod, the family group may be the photographer's subject.
