The Story of how the Scott family came to settle in Great Yarmouth

Photgraph and information about the Scott family's guesthouses

By Lauren Mccurdy

Mrs V Tuttle's family settled in Great Yarmouth after her Great Grandparents Mr & Mrs Scott visited the town for a Post Office conference (a portrait of which can be seen in the photograph). Whilst her grand father attended the conference her grand mother explored the town and decided she liked it so much that they should move to Great Yarmouth and run a guesthouse.

Their business was very successful and they expanded buying several guesthouses within the town, all of which were run by family members.

More information about their guesthouses can be found by clicking this link.

I remember my father Reginald Hinton talking about the Scott family and their life in Great Yarmouth. He remembered them as bakers in their early existance. His mother was Margaret Scott, his grandfather was John Scott, always known to us as Grandad Scott. He had walked to Kidderminster from Glasgow to find his fortune. My father was born in Kidderminster and moved to Stafford during the war.
