Our Pictures and writing about our school
By Owl Class
In Owl Class we drew pictures of the front of our school and we wrote about Rose Dale who was the first Head Teacher at Alderman Swindell. We also wrote about the way that the school has changed since it was built.
100 years ago not all children went to school. Then a man called Herbert Fisher said in 1918 that all of the children should go to school aged 5-14 years. The school was named after Theophilus Witter Swindell in 1929.

80 years ago school was different. Children sat in rows and there were 2 children per desk. The teacher stood at the front and wrote on a blackboard with chalk. There were sometimes as many as 60 children in a class. Girls and boys were split up and taught different things. If you were naughty you would get a smack with a stick. Children were taught reading, writing and maths.

80 years ago school was different to how it is now. Children sat in rows at desks facing the front. If you did not do what you were told to do you would get hit with a stick. The teacher had to write on blackboards. There were sometimes as many as 60 children in a class.

Our school was built in 1929. The CASSTLE was built in 2006. The mobiles were put on the school field in 2015. Things change and develop all of the time.

We looked at artifacts from about 30 years ago. I thought the first artifact was a video tape, it was a video tape. The second artifact was cool. I thought it was a video card. It was a floppy disk. They used a video tape to watch TV. They used a floppy disk to record stuff and put it on a computer.
