Import of Silk
Were the silkworms or Mulberry leaves imported?

I have a very keen interest in finding out more about this fascinating subject. What I would really like to know is how the silkworms were brought over to the factory in the first place. How did they maintain numbers? What were they fed on once they were there? In the dark ages silk would have been imported as woven silk however it seems that there was a building at Grout's silk factory specifically for the production of the silk worms. Where did the worms come from and how did they keep them. I would like to know more detail about this process. Were Mulberry leaves imported as well?
