Mrs Walsey's memories of a holiday in Great Yarmouth

Photographs of Mrs Walsey and her friend on holiday

By Laura Matthews

Rhea Wasley visited Great Yarmouth for a fortnight's holiday with her friend Valerie Burns during the summer of 1957. She travelled to Great Yarmouth from Felton on her Prima Scooter with her friend riding pillion on the back. They stayed in a guesthouse on the seafront, which they found very comfortable and homely. They enjoyed visiting the beach and the theatre and particularly dancing at the Winter Gardens. Rhea remembers seeing a show staring Lonnie Donagan with a young Des O'Connor as support who she thought was very funny. She remembers the town as a very friendly place; she made lots of friends during the holiday some of which can be seen on the beach in the first photograph.

The photographs of Rhea and Valerie walking down Marine Parade were taken by one of the beach photographers who managed to snap them several times during the holiday.

My mother when she was alive told me that when Des O Conner was playing at Yarmouth he visited our house in Cobholm as my mother used to take in the show
girls as our house was a bed and breakfast. I belive he was trying to get one of them to go on a date.
