It is sad to see the Windmill Theatre as it is, back in theĀ 1960s it was great to take my children to see the shows then come out and get some chips just around the corner and start walking back to our carvan at night.

With ref. to Friday night leisure. When a teenager the night to go out was Saturday. I can still remember to this day my friends and I on our Saturday night out, we would meet at the Windmill pub in Cobholm, then on to the Lady Haven, next would be the Star and Garter, Dukes head, then on to the Mitre, after leaving the Mitre we would go to Backs Bar, after this the Coach and Horses, we would now be on our way to the Garibaldi Dance Hall , but first we would stop at the Silk Mills. After gaining entry to the Gari we would meet a few more pals from over the water (Gorleston) at about 9.45 we would get our pass outs and head for the Black Angus for a meal here we would meet our pal Gary Scott Spencer(not his real name ) he was head waiter ,after our meal we would head back to the Gari to finish the night off. Remembering that most places at that time closed at midnight , we would set off those living in Gorleston would try and make the late bus ,while we of Newtown would start our walk home ,when we got to Salisbury Rd , on occasions we would find Carters chip shop about to close , so we usually took what was left and headed for our respective homes i.e. Jellicoe Rd and Sturdee Ave this would be about 12.45 or thereabouts , a good night out .To do this in this age would be a second mortgage, but in the mid sixties less than a fiver , happy times ,with good mates who I still see to this day
